I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended LAUSD schools. I graduated from Granada Hills High School and received my BA in Child Development and Psychology from CSUN. My junior year was spent studying comparative education at Uppsala University, in Sweden. After earning my elementary teaching credential I ventured to a small farming town outside of Sakai, Japan to teach English.
The following year I began my career with LAUSD. I have had the pleasure of teaching students from Kindergarten-4th grade.
I joined the Vintage Magnet staff in 2009. I feel privileged to teach at Vintage- with such eager students, supportive parents, and a highly talented and dedicated staff. I have served as GATE coordinator, Reading Recovery Reading specialist, Mentor Teacher, and I have coached many CSUN student teachers. This year I am thoroughly enjoying teaching Second Grade with Mrs. Amanios in Room 23 and working with the Second Grade Team!
My husband is an engineer at KCAL/KCBS. We have two children. Our family enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling together.
My personal motto is
Work hard, Play hard.
Welcome to 2nd grade! I am very excited to be working with Mrs. Raquel & you this year in Room 23. I hope to make this year a fun learning experience for your child.
I believe it is important for students to become independent learners while setting high expectations. I hope to achieve this by finding their strengths and interests to help them become successful. Technology has been a wonderful tool to help students practice their skills or provide enrichment opportunities. I try to incorporate technology within my lessons & allow students time to use technology in the classroom.
I have been teaching at Vintage Magnet for 19 years, now starting my 20th year. I began my career here working as a Teacher's Assistant in 3rd grade while pursuing my teaching credential. I have only taught 1st and 2nd grade, but would like to teach an upper grade in the future. I have spent my career in the classroom because I feel this is where I can truly make a difference. I am honored to be a part of the Vintage family.
I am happily married and have 2 sons. My oldest son is 12 and attends middle school. My youngest son 7 years old and attends Vintage Magnet. We enjoy playing at the park, reading stories together, visiting relatives, watching movies, and going to Menchies for yogurt.
